Every year, on the last Friday of April, communities across the U.S. come together to celebrate Arbor Day—a day dedicated to planting, nurturing, and appreciating trees. It’s more than just putting a sapling in the ground (though we love that!), it’s about recognizing the incredible role trees play in our daily lives and the health of our planet.
Why Arbor Day Matters
Trees are an essential part of our daily lives. From cleaning the air we breathe, helping conserve water, to supporting biodiversity, and even reducing energy costs by providing natural shade and windbreaks, we could not exist without them. Arbor Day reminds us of all the quiet, powerful ways trees support our lives and how important it is to protect and grow our forests for future generations.
America’s Forests Are Growing
There’s a common belief that using paper leads to deforestation, but that is the farthest thing from the truth! In fact, forests in the U.S. are growing, and much of that is thanks to responsible forest management and sustainable paper production.
According to Two Sides North America, U.S. forests grow approximately two times more wood than is harvested each year, and there’s a net increase of about 25 billion cubic feet of forest growth annually. That’s a strong sign that paper products and forest sustainability can go hand in hand when done right.
Tree Planting Makes a Big Impact
From small towns to big cities, people like you are planting trees through community events, school programs, and local organizations. Programs like Tree City USA from the Arbor Day Foundation support thousands of communities that are committed to growing greener, healthier urban forests.
How You Can Celebrate Arbor Day
There are so many ways to get involved and show your love for trees:
🌳 Plant a Tree – In your yard, at your child’s school, or through a local group.
📚 Share the Facts – Talk to friends or coworkers about how paper and sustainability can go hand in hand.
🛒 Choose Responsibly – Look for paper products certified by organizations like FSC® or SFI®, which promote responsible forestry.
Trees are a vital part of our lives, and Arbor Day is the perfect opportunity to give back. Whether you’re planting one tree or helping a whole community go green, you’re making a difference.
